Stages of South African History

The Great King Mufasa said life is like a circle, the great Circle of Life, he called it. Indeed life is many circles, phases, cycles and spirals. Nothing lasts forever, except UBuntu.

The history of South African colonisation can be summarised in stages or themes. Namely; the theme of (1)Tranquillity. It is the stage when our Ancestors and their various clan men were living peacefully on this very land. A time when greed and material desire was not the driving force of economies. Instead, a harmonious symbiotic relationship existed between people and nature. It was in those times that Natives had a clear understanding of Self and their purpose in Nature and Society.

A change was to come when they met their colonisers, leading us to the next stage of (2)Uncertainty.

Triggered by the arrival of foreigners who sought what the Natives had cultivated for themselves. In such a climate, Trust is of the highest virtue and importance for relations to run smoothly between two distinctive human cultures. Without it, doubt and the fear of the unknown takes over, all caused by the venture into unknown territories.

(4)Betrayal is the next stage that follows.

Leading us to the next stage, the stage of (5) conflict.
