Shaka Zulu with Heritage Month

His father was the Zulu chief Senzangakhona. Shaka’s anger probably stemmed from the fact that he was an illegitimate child, so he was raised by his mother in her village, where he was  ushered into ibutho lempi (fighting unit) serving as a warrior under Dingiswayo. Shaka was such a great warrior that he was able to improve the ibutho military system and he made many forged alliances with other tribes and clans to strengthen himself against the possibility of nearby threats. He was diplomatic, strategic and even used social propaganda for his political success and victories in war. Shaka played a very large role in the start of the tragic tribal wars in South Africa called the Mfecane or Difaqane wars.
